About this place
Lunch at Comme Chez Michel offers the pleasure of building a set menu by choosing a starter, main course and dessert. One diner recalled selecting each course to suit their taste from an affordable menu. The seasoning was gentle, without heavy sauces or butter, yet the meal still left them feeling full. Another lunch began with a salad of cured ham and French cheese, followed by the soup of the day, beef short rib braised in beer and a baked cherry tart. Rather than focusing on just one signature dish, diners can choose from the first course through to dessert to suit their mood that day.
The choices include parsley-flavoured baked escargots and marinated firefly squid from Toyama Prefecture. One diner praised the olive sauce and cooking of the fish dish, while the changing menu is another part of its appeal. Meat options can take the meal in a different direction: cassoulet served with a jambonnette of suckling pig and white beans, roast French duckling, or poêléed Japanese Black wagyu. Though the restaurant centres on set menus, à la carte dishes are also available, including French cheeses.
Flavoured teas combining notes such as Earl Grey, jasmine and roseberry are among the after-meal drinks. One lunch diner said the tea was delicious and not at all astringent. Cold-brew coffee and espresso are also available, so the final cup after dessert can be chosen to taste.
